Watering
Watering requirements for Georgia turf generally vary from 3/4" to 1" per week. Turf cultivars and maintenance levels allow for many variables, as well Mother Nature. Ask your BACO turf consultant about specific watering requirements for your lawn turf.
Mowing (grass cutting)
Your turf type will determine optimum turf mowing height. Bermuda and Zoysia heights generally range from 1/2" to 2 1/2". Fescue and most other cool season grasses need to be maintained at 3"-5". The "Rule" for mowing heights is called the "rule of thirds". Never cut off more or less than 1/3 of your desired height. For example: if you want you want to maintain your Bermuda lawn at 1" in height; mow your lawn every time your lawn grows to 1 1/2". The more you fertilize and water the more often you need to mow. Aeration
Aeration is critical step in turf management, which is often overlooked. In the metro Atlanta and North Georgia soils are primarily clay, which compacts easily. Core aeration relieves soil compaction, water percolation and transfer of oxygen to the turfs root system. Remember that you can't have a good looking lawn without a healthy fibrous root system, which can accept as much water and nutrients, as possible. Core aeration is also recommended when you overseed cool season grasses in the fall. Turf aeration aids in development of a healthy root system, which resists stress brought on by summer heat.
