SELECTING A PEST CONTROL COMPANY
Selecting a competent pest & termite control Company is important because you are protecting your most valuable assets; your family and your home.
Is the Company Licensed? The States of Georgia and South Carolina require both the Company and its technicians to be "continually" tested, certified and licensed to perform pest control services.
Has the Company been in business for a while? Being in business for 50 years does not necessarily mean the company will manage your pests effectively. Newer companies can have personnel who are just as experienced as those at long-established businesses, just as smaller local companies can have technicians as experienced as those working for large national companies. But, the Company must be able to discuss details associated with the treatment proposed for your home.
Does the Company have a good track record? You should consider any references a company provides, carefully. You should investigate any complaints against the company, filed at your local Better Business Bureau or Consumer Protection Office of the Attorney General. Quality of service is as important as price.
Does the Company bond its work? Obtain "written" copies of warranties or guarantees from the company and understand them, before you make a decision. Make sure the bond / warranty you receive has a "zero" deductible coverage clause.
Does the Company have appropriate insurance? A reputable Company will minimally carry general liability. As a home owner, always make sure you ask if the Company carries workers compensation insurance to protect you in the event of a pest control technician is injured on your property.
Is the Company a member of a professional Pest Control Association like the Georgia Pest Control Association? Associations maintain a Code of Ethics, quality service guidelines and keep members apprised of new developments in the industry.
Here are some questions you can ask candidate pest control representatives:
- What treatment results can be anticipated; elimination or reduction of pests?
- How long will it take to resolve pest problems?
- Does the company offer a guarantee? What is your cancellation policy?
- Is the Company in good standing with the National or Georgia Pest Control Association?
- Is the technician servicing my home certified and licensed by the State of Georgia or South Carolina?
- What kinds of insurance are carried by the Company?
- Does the Company offer Green services? Especially, where termite colony elimination is concerned.
At the end of the day, the measure of a company is in the quality of its employees & the effectiveness of services provided. A licensed and experienced inspector should provide you with a helpful evaluation, not only about pests, but how you can do to prevent pest infestations.
